Q. How do I make it show the outlines of the cells of a table even when the table's border is invisible?
A. Go to the “Table” menu and select “Show gridlines”.
Q. How do I set the default dictionary and make it stay?
A. The answer is likely to be different depending on what version of MS Word you are running, however there are a few different places where the default language can be set. This answer is based on Word 2003 and Windows XP.
Go to the Tools menu –> Language –> Set Language. This will pop up a language selection dialoge. Choose the language you want and click the “Default…” button.
Start Menu –> All Programs → Micorsoft Office Tools → Microsoft Office Language Settings. Choose default language and click OK.
Another set of useful settings for
MS Windows in general is in the Control Panel, under “Regional and Language Options”:
In the “Regional Options” tab, in the “Standards and formats” section choose “English (Australia)” (using the “Customize…” button here allows you to change to a 24-hour clock if you want to). Then in the “Location” section choose “Australia”.
In the “Languages” tab click “Details…”, and in the window that appears click “Add…” in the “Installed services” section and choose “English (Australia)” and “US” in the two drop-downs then click “OK”. Choose this new entry in the “Default input language” drop-down then click “Apply”. Remove the “Englich (United States) entry from the “Installed services” section then click “OK”.
In the “Advanced” tab choose “English (Australia)” from the drop-down.
Click “OK”. (Thanks to Edward for that one)
