If you find that the volume, speaker or microphone, is too low on your EeePC but the volume sliders both say full volume, something might have played around with your ALSA mixer.
Press CTRL-ALT-T to bring up a terminal and type in alsamixer and press enter. You can now control the volumes of different inputs and outputs and control the microphone boost on the two microphone connections.
